The presence of educational institutions in a particular location influences and is influenced by the society in which they are inserted. In this sense, the general objective of this research is to know the history of the Américo Antunes School and their contributions to the montebelense society. To get an general vision of the constitution of the Brazilian school system, the present investigation takes as reference authors as Nagle (2001), Aranha (2006) and Dourado (2009). To talk about the establishment of secondary education in Goiás, this study takes as reference studies, among others autors, Pinto (s / d), Bretas (1991); Nepomuceno (1994) and Alves (2007) .The educational legislation is taken into account to understand how secondary education is being constituting in Brazil and especially in the state of Goiás. The methodology to the accomplish this study, beyond the biography review it is an qualitative research with documentary and historical character, making use of documents, files and reports of people who fomented the creation of the College Américo Antunes in São Luís de Montes Belos. As a result, this research brings a historical record of the contributions of this educational establishment to montebelense society
