FATORES DETERMINANTES DA EVASÃO ESCOLAR NO ENSINO SUPERIOR: O ESTUDO DE CASO DO ILES/ULBRA DE ITUMBIARA

Abstract

The evasion is a recurring problem in higher education and has assumed large proportions in the undergraduation. Along these lines, it was elected as the research problem to identify the factors that led students to give up a degree. Based on this issue, it was conducted a research aimed at identifying the main factors related to school dropout rates in higher education. Specifically, it aimed to examine the educational situation in higher education in Brazil, identify socioeconomic factors, factors related to the difficulty in tracking the course and factors related to quality stroke or adapt to the student regarding their withdrawal. The relevance of this research came from an awakening interest for an investigation to clarify this phenomenon. Therefore, this study became feasible in the circumstances of professional and personal interest of the researcher on the subject. This search is justified because it contributes to the knowledge of the subject. Methodologically, as a basis for building this, we performed a literature search on the topic in higher education. In the second phase it was conducted a case study in the course of business management at ILES / ULBRA of Itumbiara - GO, in the period 2006 to 2009. The instruments of data collection were a questionnaire applied to a population of 33 dropout students and interviews with 07 coordinators of the course in the Institution. The informations obtained indicated that the financial issue as a major factor for withdrawal among the participants. It is also emphasized the need for intervention from the leaders in order to retain students by promoting actions that will enable students to remain until the completion of the course.
