CARACTERÍSTICAS SOCIOECONÔMICAS DOS ESTUDANTES DO INSTITUTO FEDERAL DO TOCANTINS – CAMPUS PALMAS

Abstract

This master thesys aimed to identify the socioeconomic characteristics of students at the Federal Institute of Tocantins - Campus Palmas. The study was developed based on bibliographic research for the definition of theoretical and conceptual aspects; documentary research to obtain data and information on general aspects of Federal Institutes, their main areas of professional training, the profile of students in the network, as well as data on the institutional and administrative structure of the Federal Institute of Tocantins, its students and, specifically, from Campus Palmas. In the field research, questionnaires were applied to the students, who defined their socioeconomic characteristics, and later, interviews with the social workers of the Campus, where it was intended to evaluate the student profile, from the social point of view. During the study, an expressive number of students in situations of evasion and retention were found in the Unit, and student assistance policies and offers of aid granted were examined. Finally, based on the results of the questionnaires, proposals were made to subsidize student assistance actions, programs and projects, which help to prevent dropout, facilitate permanence, improve the quality of life and the possibilities of success in student's professional life
