Região Metropolitana de Goiânia (RMG) – Os Desafios da Integração

Abstract

The present study aimed to analyze the aspects that impede the integration of the Metropolitan Region of Goiânia - RMG and to suggest initiatives that consolidate this figure of institutional organization of the territory as an instrument of regional planning. In the elaboration of the work, bibliographic research was used, consulting several authors; documentary research, mainly at the Mauro Borges Institute (IMB), the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) and the Institute for Applied Economic Research (IPEA). Field research was carried out through some interviews and a questionnaire was sent to the prefectures of the 21 municipalities in the RMG. This consultation with the questionnaire resulted in a great diversity of responses on the main problems that prevent the integration of the RMG, the current status of the Integrated Urban Development Plan - PDUI of the RMG, the reasons that prevent the progress of the PDUI and the public functions of common interest, as well as the main challenges and proposals to achieve the metropolitan integration of the municipalities.
