COMPETITIVIDADE DA AGROINDÚSTRIA ARROZEIRA DE GOIÁS

Abstract

The Agro-industry if established in Goiás in the decade of 1970 and 1980, when the volume of production of rice in the region Center West was high and Goiás was the main supplier of rice to other Brazilian regions. In the following decades the productive reality of the rice moved, the planted area diminished significantly. Goiás changed from exporter to importer of paddy for its Agro-industry. The current picture is that the main part of the paddy milled in Goiás comes from Rio Grande do Sul state, that is 2,200 km away of our Agro-industry. This thesis’ aim was to identify to the competitiveness factors of this industry compared to its competitors. This study had as objective to analyze the productive chain of the rice, with emphasis in the Agro-industry rice dealer of the State of Goiás. A conjunctural analysis of rice was carried out, considering the cultivation area and the volume of production, in the regions North, South, Northeast, Center West and Southeast of Brazil. For the recognition of the productive chain a regional and historical survey of the rice crop was carried out in Goiás from 1975 to 2008. By means of a quantitative and qualitative research, one searchs to inside understand the commercial relations and between the three analyzed chain segments. The analysis of competitiveness of the rice Agro-industry is developed with the aid of drivers and sub-factors of competitiveness in the made vertical clipping inside of the productive chain of the rice: Producer, Agro-industry and market. Later an analysis of the distribution of the profits throughout the productive chain of the rice was made, on the basis of the index of price variation. The result of the analysis is a vision of the reality of the productive chain of the rice in Goiás.
